Landis wants to end ‘wait’ in meetings

Call it Fredonia Mayor Athanasia Landis’ “Nobody wants to wait for 45 minutes” proposal.

Landis made that statement at Monday’s Board of Trustees workshop in regard to the board’s work schedule.

Currently, the board holds its workshops every other Monday, with its regular meetings, where it hears village officials’ reports and votes on laws and resolutions, scheduled for exactly an hour after the workshops end. Landis was making the point that if the workshops end after only 15 minutes, everyone is sitting around with nothing to do for 45 minutes.

The mayor said there should be no time period between the end of the workshop and the start of the regular meeting. “You can set it up so the workshop is incorporated as part of the public meeting,” Village Treasurer Jim Sedota said.

He said the agenda for the meeting could start including the workshop period, instead of the workshop getting its own agenda. “I think it can be done and Dan (Gard, village attorney) is looking into it,” he said.

“It’s really not doing anything different other than the time,” Trustee Kara Christina said.

Landis said including the workshop in the meeting might encourage more residents to attend it, allowing them to see how the trustees arrive at decisions.

The trustees took no action on the proposal last week.
