Crews set up for filming of ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’

BARCELONA — Filming for “A Quiet Place: Part II” appears to be gearing up, as crew could be seen moving things around at the Barcelona Harbor Tuesday evening.

An industrial fan, several boats and several cranes with lights, as well as standalone spotlights, were in place around the harbor along with several lights near a larger boat docked at the furthest back slip. The pier, closed to the public as of the beginning of filming September 3 and going on through September 7, was drawing quite the crowd.

A small crowd was gathered on the lawn by the Barcelona Lighthouse, watching the crew set up from behind the police-enforced barrier. “It looks like they’re setting up to shoot a boat scene,” said area visitor Dave Johnson, watching from the grass with his grandchildren. “They’ve been moving things on and off, talking on their phones, it’s going somewhere.”

Crew for the film were busy working down at the docks, as well as up along North Portage Street. Filming for “A Quiet Place: Part II” will only take place at night, for an indeterminate amount of time, in Westfield. One person reportedly connected with the crew said a boat will be blown up as one of the stunts in the movie.

Parking along Route 5 was closed off along the main section around Barcelona Harbor, but those curious enough to venture for a peek found sparse spots behind the North Portage Street gas station. Even passing motorists could be seen slowing down for a closer look.

“People should just pull over and take a minute to look,” Johnson remarked about the distracted drivers, adding. “Seems like there hasn’t been too much extra traffic around, but there’s more people now for sure. It’s happening.”

When asked if there had been any actor/actress sightings, Johnson’s granddaughter, Ginger, replied, “I haven’t seen Emily Blunt around, I really hope she’s one of the people here. If John Krasinski is here that would be so amazing.”

Director of “A Quiet Place: Part II” John Krasinski is slated to be in town for the filming. After the scenes in Barcelona, the crew is reportedly expected to head to New Paltz, N.Y., where they shot parts of the first movie.
