CONEWANGO VALLEY — Have you ever wondered where your milk really comes from? Would you like to tour a modern dairy farm and see how cows are milked? Would you like to pet baby calves?

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County invites you and your family to join us for the “Visit the Farm Day” to be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Frontier Brook Farm, owned and operated by the Glen Moss Family at 5777 Route 83, Conewango Valley. Admission and parking is free and the event will take place rain or shine.

Guided walking tours of the farm will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., featuring stations to see and learn about: cows being milked using robotic technology, feeding and housing of dairy cows, raising baby calves, and farm equipment used on the farm. The tour will take about 45 minutes, and participants can also enjoy educational displays, children’s activities, and free delicious milk and string cheese.

Frontier Brook Farm has been in operation since 1988 and is now owned and operated by Glen Moss, his son Glen Moss, Jr. and wife Sara. Their family farm started as a small tie stall dairy, utilizing rotational grazing and has continued to progress into a productive 250 cow free stall dairy farm using the latest technologies to raise quality dairy cattle that produce high quality milk.

The purpose of this event is to educate the public and promote agriculture in Chautauqua County, which is our number one industry in New York atate.

There are 1,225 farms in the county, with 223,634 acres in agricultural production or 33% of the county’s total acreage. Chautauqua County is home to 150 dairy farms, whose families work hard to provide quality milk and dairy products for all to enjoy. Milk and grapes continue to be the leading agricultural products in Chautauqua County.

This educational “Visit the Farm Day” is organized by Cornell Cooperative of Chautauqua County, hosted by the Moss Family, with financial support from area agribusiness sponsors and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Due to the nature of the farmstead, portions of the tour will not be easily accessible and will require navigating stairs, uneven terrain, and slopes. There will be an accessible area of the farm that will include interactions with calves, and information on the agricultural industry, and ask questions as a way to engage with limited mobility.
