New streetlights coming to Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — The village is inching ever closer to having new LED lights installed by NYSEG, according to Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg at the latest meeting of the village board.

“I had an opportunity to talk with Mark Stifter from NYSEG,” Hornburg began in his comments to the village. “He sent me a bill for the buy-out of the current lights in anticipation of the installation of the new LEDs.”

Hornburg went on to say, “After our conversation, I questioned why I’m going to pay for the old ones before he gives me the new ones. I told him, I’m not going to pay him for the old ones while they’re still up and running…We came to an agreement on that.”

The project looks to be moving forward at a better pace than expected, due in part to the fact that both the village and town of Hanover agreed to the project around the same time. “He (Stifter) is working diligently and thinks that because we (Silver Creek and Hanover) are together on this, we have a good shot at being done within the next 30-60 days,” Hornburg noted. “That’s not in writing, but that’s his projection.”

The big question regarding whether or not the lights will be up before it snows, was also addressed by Hornburg. “It is getting closer and I think that everybody will be happy when that operation is over,” he commented. “He (Stifter) thinks it will happen before it snows.”

In addition, the village was reportedly high on the list of municipalities NYSEG is doing the LED conversions in, according to Hornburg.

“We have a good in because the town and village were close to first on the list to getting done, and they can come in here and do two municipalities with one crew and get it knocked out,” he said.

In other news, the board announced that there will be no village board meeting today due to the Labor Day holiday.

The Silver Creek Planning Board also changed the date of their meetings to the fourth Monday of the month from the second Monday of the month, with the time of the meeting staying at 7 p.m.

The board also approved the purchase of a dump body and snow plow package from Valley Fab and Equipment at a cost of $71,559,60, as well as an additional plow wing at a cost of $2,324.15.
