SILVER CREEK –A replica of The Roll of Honor was presented to the Samuel Cimino Post 6472 at the Veterans Day celebration by village Historian Louis F. Pelletter. The Roll of Honor was a tribute to the Silver Creek-area men and women who served in World War II

The original board was 8 by 20 feet plywood and was hand painted. After being dedicated in the Village Park in the late 1940s it was displayed in the upstairs gym in the municipal building.

The municipal building, after it was built in 1930, was the center for community activities. The board was there for everyone to appreciate since most community events were held there.

With the changing of the public access laws in the 1990s the upstairs of the hall was no longer used. In an attempt to publicly display this board it was moved to an outside location which unfortunately caused its destruction.

In trying to keep everything as original as possible, the replica board is half the size of the original.

“It was very important to have all veterans that served listed. Several that were not listed on the first board were added as per family requests,” said Louis F. Pelletter, village historian and Hanover deputy town supervisor. “Archived photos and newspaper articles were used to ensure that the replica contained what was visible on the original board.”
