Land Bank acquiring former Brocton diner

Once a mainstay in the village of Brocton, the Green Arch Restaurant has been vacant for nearly two years, but the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation is hopeful about finding a buyer soon.

During their February meeting at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, the Land Bank board of directors approved a resolution to acquire the property from Chautauqua County for the full amount of taxes owed. According to Executive Director Gina Paradis, the amount is approximately $12,500.

“We’re very hopeful that we can find a buyer who will reopen it as a food and beverage outlet,” Paradis told the OBSERVER in a phone interview on Wednesday. “The conditions aren’t terrible. It needs a really, really good cleaning, but the plumbing and electric seem to be in working order.”

Paradis explained that the Land Bank recently completed an inventory on all of the equipment in the building. While some of the older refrigerators were removed and disposed of, she noted that the rest of the commercial equipment is still installed and appears functional.

“Certainly, considering the historic value of the property and the fact that it’s been in the community for so long and enjoyed such popularity as a place to meet and eat, we’re really hopeful that we can find the right buyer who will invest a little bit into the building and reopen the operation,” said Paradis.

The restaurant began serving the Brocton community in the 1930s, and Paradis noted that the first owners of the current building were recorded in 1953.

“We have already had some calls from people who are interested in it,” she told the OBSERVER. “Currently, we’re just waiting on the appraisal of the property, and then once we get that, we’ll list it with the Chautauqua County Realtors and probably on LoopNet, which lists commercial properties.”
