Upgrade in works for city Tim Hortons

Submitted Photo Pictured is a general mockup of what the Tim Hortons on Lakeshore Drive might look like when completed. The gray will mostly stay the same, but owner Dave Kron is looking to do white accenting instead.

Tim Hortons is looking to refresh its look in the city of Dunkirk. The Lakeshore Drive location is doing an interior remodel and owner Dave Kron, wants to fix up the outside a bit as well.

“When we built our Tim Hortons 12 years ago, we built our building to correspond with the Boardwalk project so we had the nautical theme,” Kron stated at the Dunkirk Harbor Commission meeting that took place Feb. 19. “We’d like to lean more towards gray and white such as the new building on the pier looks.”

The structure Kron was referencing is the new Pier 30 project that’s being put up at the moment; he then produced a photo mockup put together by corporate to illustrate the new color scheme.

Kron stated with the inside remodel that the Coldstone Creamery is being shut down as well.

“I have a little bit of chocolate left, but that’s it; we stopped serving the first week of the year,” Kron added. “When we first put that in, business was a little bit slower on the Tim’s side and it helped pick things up, but as it’s gone forward, Tim’s has gotten really busy and the Coldstone was pulling away from my staff on the Tim’s side. It served it’s purpose, it did exceptionally well for us, but corporate is doing away with a lot of the Coldstones.”

One thing brought up by a meeting attendee was the case for outside seating.

“I have considered outside seating, to be honest though it’s a double-edge sword,” Kron replied. “The problem that we have is loitering, it would be too hard to control the outside. It’s hard enough to keep track of it inside the restaurant. One of the reasons we started closing at night was because we started having problems with drug overdoses in our restrooms and needles in the trash containers.”

The update would still have to go in front of the Planning Board, but everything looks hopeful and Kron wants to start work as soon as possible.
