U.S. flags already flying in Cassadaga

Keeping spirits high during troubled times

Flags, which normally are not visible in Cassadaga until Memorial Day, were recently displayed to show “community strength and unity” during the crisis. Submitted Photo.

CASSADAGA — Flags are flying early in the village. This show of flags is inspired by the patriotism and unity of a strong community.

More than 200 American flags are flown as an annual event in Cassadaga which normally starts by Memorial Day, this display will be accelerated this year to show community strength and unity during the nationwide crisis.

The Cassadaga American Legion Memorial Post 1280 manages a unique flag sponsorship program. Flags are sponsored annually by individuals in honor of a veteran, family member or loved one. The legion family manages the assembly of flagpoles, purchase of new flags, disposal of unserviceable flags, display of flags and removal after the flying season.

The legion will continue its efforts to complete the display of all sponsored flags within the village as soon as practical. The legion thanks all community sponsors participating in this program.
