City sets schedule for service

Dunkirk’s Memorial Day services on Monday morning will be downsized and abbreviated, but they will have some important speakers with a significant message.

On Saturday, the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council announced that besides city Mayor Wilfred Rosas, state and county leaders will also be in attendance.

State Sen. George Borrello, Assemblyman Andrew Goodell and Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel and Rosas will be speaking about the sacrifices made by so many of the nation’s soldiers to preserve our freedoms. In addition, Tonia Piede, music teacher at Schools 4 and 7 and Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church music director, will sing the national anthem.

Services begin at 9 a.m. in Memorial Park. Those who plan to attend are urged to practice social and spatial distancing due to the coronavirus. The annual parade remains canceled.

John D’Agostino of the OBSERVER will be the master of ceremonies.
