Cassadaga Beach opening Saturday, a mark of summer

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Beach is opening on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The true mark of summer in Cassadaga is when the beach opens, which is happening this weekend. The lifeguards are going through orientation soon to be prepared for the swimmers.

The Department of Public Works will be working the rest of this week to put up the volleyball net, mow the grass, lay out sand and spread out the picnic tables for social distancing purposes. The beach will be allowed to have 50% capacity, as ordered by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Masks are also encouraged by Cuomo when people are not in the water.

Other summer activities are also starting soon in the village, such as the annual youth fishing tournament scheduled for Saturday as well; a triathlon on July 1; the first kayak night scheduled for Monday; and concerts coming soon, depending on the restrictions.

The first concert will be on July 12, featuring Big Tone. On July 4, Cassadaga Lakes Association will be shooting their flares at 9:30 p.m., then form a boat parade with lights at night.
