COVID testing sites to open in county

Two new free COVID-19 testing sites will open next week in Chautauqua County.

The clinics are being made possible through a partnership with a New York state testing initiative in Western New York that includes additional Abbott ID Now analyzers, testing supplies and contract staff. Drive-through testing clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30 at the Taylor Training Center Jamestown Training Grounds, 240 Harrison St., Jamestown, and the Murphy Training Center, Dunkirk Training Grounds, 665 Brigham Road, Dunkirk.

COVID-19 testing is available to anybody who wants to be tested and is free. Appointments are required; walk-in testing is not available.

The quickest way to get an appointment is to visit one of the links below and schedule an appointment online. Those without Internet access can call 866-604-6789 for scheduling help. However, due to current call volume, it may take some time to get through to a scheduler. For the Jamestown clinic, visit apps.health.ny.gov/doh2/applinks/cdmspr/2/counties?OpID=1300021. For the Dunkirk clinic, visit apps.health.ny.gov/doh2/applinks/cdmspr/2/counties?OpID=1300020

There will be no testing clinics in Mayville on Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Thursday, Oct. 29, as previously scheduled.

Earlier on Monday, Dunkirk boys soccer took an unexpected break due to COVID-19. The athletic department learned during the morning the varsity team was placed on a 14-day quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test result.

“As of this release, we will be cancelling boys varsity soccer games through Wednesday, Oct. 28,” said district athletic director Al Gens.

Dunkirk High School has been on a totally remote schedule and the students involved have only been on campus for practices and games. “The health and safety of our student/athletes is our primary concern,” Gens concluded.
