Silver Creek announces trick-or-treating hours

SILVER CREEK — Trick-or-treating hours have been set by the Silver Creek Village Board.

At a meeting earlier this month, the board set the hours for 4-7 p.m. within the village.

“I would like to remind the children and the parents to be diligent, cautious and to use discretion when trick-or-treating,” Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg said. “Don’t try to go to every house in Silver Creek. I would recommend staying with people that you know, and I encourage parents to check the stash when they get home.”

The board discussed with the Kiwanis Club about having a Trunk-or-Treat celebration with the possibility of a parade as well. The board agreed to the parade, noting that the cars can be safely distanced.

The Trunk-or-Treat event will take place in the town square at 5 p.m.

In other business, the village board discussed a letter that will be sent in residents’ water bills that states that — though the village cannot turn off water to homes — the bills will not be forgiven in any way. The village is giving residents the opportunity to start payment plans to pay bills.

The last day for brush pickup for the village is scheduled to be on Monday, Oct. 19. Those interested in participating must cut brush, shrubs and limbs to 4 feet or less in length and pile neatly at the curb. Leaves, grass and small sticks must be placed in containers no more than 40 pounds.

The last day, until March, for heavy metal pickup is Nov. 25. Appliances containing freon will not be picked up unless it has been professionally removed.
