State Police identify man killed in Thruway crash

First responders are pictured.

OBSERVER Staff Report

The New York State Police released the name of the man killed in Monday’s crash involving a Thruway truck on Interstate 90.

The man was identified as 70-year-old Thomas B. Sweat of Buffalo. Troopers say Sweat was eastbound in the left lane around 1:30 p.m. in town of Pomfret when, for unknown reasons, his 2006 Porsche Cayenne veered off the left side of the road.

“The vehicle corrected into the lane before over-correcting back to the left shoulder where he struck the back end of the Thruway truck,” the New York State Police said in a news release.

Sweat was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Porsche, identified as 57-year-old Buffalo resident Angela Singletary, was taken by helicopter to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. Singletary suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

A Thruway employee, 57-year-old Christopher Cady of Sherman, suffered minor injuries.
