Jack Edward Lawson

Jack Edward Lawson, 90 of Cassadaga, passed away with his daughter and devoted wife beside him on Dec. 22, 2021, at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing, where he had lived since August of 2021.

Born May 10, 1931, in Jamestown, to the late Stanley and Lucille (Johnson) Lawson.

He was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean conflict. He was proud to have served our country and shared that camaraderie with several best friends and three brothers-in-law.

Karole Bernard stole his heart in July of 1957, when the two met while roller-skating at Midway. They were married shortly thereafter, on Nov. 30, 1957. In 1961 they moved to Cassadaga, where they became a mainstay in the community. Jack was a volunteer fireman for many years there.

Jack always spoke so fondly of Jamestown, where he grew up on the “South Side” reminiscing about Allen Park, working at Grants, The Wintergarden, his paper routes and all things Jamestown.

Jack began his career as a lineman for Jamestown Telephone Co. in 1956 and remained employed there until his retirement in 1993.

Many friends and family benefited from Jack’s carpentry and electrical skills. He was truly a Jack-of-all trades and helped with a number of addition projects. He admired the carpentry and car restoration abilities of his son-in-law, Ron Pavlock.

Jack and Karole enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit Europe, Asia, Australia, Mexico, Canada, and most of the U.S. often accompanied by Karole’s sister, Mary and her husband, Jim. Watch out when Karole and Mary get together. “Oh Boy!”

His favorite memories were not of far away places, but of get togethers around a dining room table, especially if it involved a cup of coffee and a sweet roll. Dinners weren’t complete unless they involved rice pudding and dessert.

Dedicated Husband of 64 years to Karole Bernard Lawson; father of Julie (Ron) Pavlock of Sinclairville and David (Jill) Law-son of Cassadaga; grandfather of Karli of Buffalo and Annie Lawson of Raleigh, N.C.; step grandfather of Bill Pavlock, Samantha (Frank) Rossotto and Dan (Olivia) Pavlock; brother of the late Robert Lawson. He’s also survived by step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and an emotional support dog from Guatemala, El Doctor.

Jack was also preceded in death by a nephew, Steve; an infant sister; and two dogs: Kona 1 and Kona 2

Jack will be remembered by his granddaughters and many young friends (who knew him as “Pop”) as a faithful fan at all sporting events and as a supporter of all things Penn State, especially Butter Pecan ice cream, Thanks Marsha! While at Heritage Village, he always looked forward to his daily visit and milkshake from his son, David.

A special shout out to those who helped us out this past year: Debbie, Lois, Mo, Cat and Bill. Care-givers are priceless. Thank you also to Pastor Joe for praying and sharing scripture with Jack.

Jack lived out his Christian faith. He was a kind-hearted, caring individual who never spoke ill of anyone. He truly saw the best in others. Jack served as an usher for many years at First Baptist Church of Dunkirk. He also attended Cassadaga Community Baptist Church, Christ Community Church Fredonia and most recently, Pleasant Valley Church.

We will miss the clear blue eyes, the big smile and the warm handshake. Thanks for the memories.

A memorial service for Jack will be held Wednesday at 1p.m. in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.
