The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the woman killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident late Christmas Day.

Donna Phelps, 58, of Dothan, Alabama, was pronounced dead at UPMC Chautauqua after the incident, reported around 11:45 p.m. behind a residence on Washington Street in the town of Harmony.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said the operator of an ATV was riding with multiple riders when they failed to notice a creek ahead.

“The ATV entered the creek and then over turned,” the Sheriff’s Offie said. “As a result the operator of the vehicle suffered minor injuries but was able to make it to the creek bank and exit the water.”

Panama firefighters and Chautauqua County EMS were alerted to a missing person possibly in the water. Phelps was located in the water and rushed to the hospital.

The fatal crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
