Dunkirk accepted a bid Tuesday for work on the Lake Shore Drive Complete Streets project.

The city Common Council voted, 4-1, to take a $1,424,511.63 bid from Lake Shore Paving in Jamestown. Councilwoman Nancy Nichols was the “no” vote.

The construction will cover the stretch of Lake Shore Drive between Main Street and Brigham Road. It will include separated bike lines, construction of a median, new curbing and various pedestrian amenities.

The project is 80% funded by the federal government. The city picks up the rest, and the Common Council appropriated $369,368 for that in a January vote.

Nichols also voted against the project in January. She has expressed concerns that it will be too disruptive to traffic during the summer events season, and could lead to big problems if there is another water line issue in the area.

Construction is expected to be completed around Labor Day weekend.
