Playground, cameras highlight village efforts

SILVER CREEK — Mayor Jeff Hornburg gave an update on the playground equipment they’re exploring, and mentioned that he had a meeting with John Curtis from JCD Design this month to further discuss a possible purchase.

“If we do this, and that’s an if, we’re not going to do this until after youth rec,” the mayor said. “We do want to get the stuff ordered so it can get here on time. They do have a sale right now that runs until the end of June.”

The equipment being looked at includes two separate playground structures, with one being intended for youth ages 2 to 5 and one for 5- to 12-year-olds.

Additionally, Silver Creek’s camera system is on the verge of being fully operational, with Village Board Member Stephen Romanik saying that the “meat and potatoes” of it went up last week, and it was able to be remotely logged into. “We got 20 cameras up and running right now,” said Romanik. “We’ll be able to do facial recognition and everything with the ones down at the park, and it’s amazing the clarity you get on them.”

Hanover Town Board member Lou Pelletter was in attendance at the meeting, and warned the village that any playground equipment it purchases should be incredibly durable in fear of it being destroyed. Romanik said the cameras at the park should help quell that fear as well.

“We’ll be able to do facial recognition and everything with the ones down at the park, and it’s amazing the clarity you get on them.”

“As far as the playground equipment, when it goes up, if it gets destroyed, we’re going to know who does it,” Romanik said.

Silver Creek’s kayak launch has also been reinstalled for the season, meaning people can use it at their leisure through the summer season.

The next Silver Creek Village Board meeting will be on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
