Fredonia recreation director resigning

The director of Fredonia’s Recreation Department, Kayla Sullivan, is resigning.

The village received her notice letter Jan. 19 and her resignation is effective Feb. 12. The village Board of Trustees approved her move Monday.

No reason was announced, and her resignation letter was not read at the meeting.

Fredonia hired Sullivan from within in September 2021 to replace longtime Recreation Department Director Thomas Battaglia after he resigned. At the time, she was called his “right hand person” by then-Trustee Roger Britz.

Trustee Dave Bird, who worked closely with Sullivan in 2022 on enhancements to Fredonia’s summer recreation offerings, expressed regret Monday that she was leaving.

“I would just like to thank Kayla Sullivan for the wonderful job that she did in the past year working with youth of the village,” he said. “We are going to need to put out a job announcement to replace her, though I don’t think it will be possible to replace her… I can only wish her wonderful things in the future.”
