Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a male individual whose body was found near the shore of Lake Erie near Canadaway Creek.

At around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, an individual reported to the Dunkirk Police Department that there was a body at the location in the town of Dunkirk. Members of the Dunkirk Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded and located a deceased male individual. The individual appeared to have been deceased for a significant amount of time and has not yet been identified.

An autopsy will be completed.
