Brocton sets Arch Festival date

OBSERVER Photo by Braden Carmen At a recent meeting, Brocton Village Trustee Kari Doino revealed the village’s second annual Arch Festival is set for Oct. 21.

BROCTON — After a successful inaugural Arch Festival last October, the village will be holding its second annual event this year on Saturday, Oct. 21.

“The Arch Festival was a pretty good hit,” Mayor Craig Miller said after last year’s event. “Lots of vendors said they will return next year. … It was pretty good for our first time.”

The event proceeded outdoors despite poor weather conditions, but this year, the village has a contingency plan in place. Brocton Central School Superintendent Jason Delcamp has reserved the high school gym for the festival in case Mother Nature does not cooperate with the village’s community celebration.

“If we have hurricane winds, this time we can go to the gym without everybody chasing their tents,” said Brocton Village Trustee Kari Doino.

Doino, who was heavily involved in coordinating the inaugural event, has been in contact with multiple vendors who expect to participate in this year’s festival.

“I’m pretty excited,” Doino said. “It was exciting to see new faces, and involvement, and the excitement.”

Doino also reported the summer recreation program is “going fabulous,” despite a decrease in enrollment, down to 45 participants. She noted that a basketball clinic that was formed on short notice has led to a decrease in attendance for the summer recreation program. The recreation program is still hoping to take a field trip later this summer.

Additionally, the Brocton-Portland Fire Department was approved for the purchase of new turnout gear.

Starting at $3.50/week.
