Second Arch Festival is deemed a success

BROCTON — Through two years of poor weather, the village has persisted with its recently founded Arch Festival. After the second annual event last month, it seems like even brighter days are ahead.

The second annual Arch Festival was deemed a success by Organizer and Village Board member Kari Doino. The Village plans to hold the Arch Festival again next year, as the community showed out for the event and multiple vendors have expressed interest in returning.

Trustee Doino’s daughter, Kasey Doino, a Brocton High School student, offered face painting to children who attended the Arch Festival.

Kasey Doino stated that approximately 50-60 kids visited her face painting site, where the most popular face painting selection was a pumpkin. She noted, “They all seemed pretty happy.”

Kari Doino has organized the Arch Festival since its inception two years ago. The second annual event, held Saturday, Oct. 21, at Brocton Central School due to inclement weather, featured 52 vendors, not including various nonprofit organizations that also attended. Live music was featured at the event, while a food truck and other food vendors were located outside of the school in the parking lot, with other food available inside. More than 90 gift baskets were also handed out.

“It was a team effort,” Kari Doino said. “… It all tied together.”

The Village will evaluate formally separating the Village Board from the festival responsibilities in future years, instead seeking the formation of a committee to oversee the event. Doing so would alleviate the restraints of municipal laws and regulations.

Also of note in Brocton, the Village Board is seeking to dissolve the Planning Board to combine duties with the Zoning Board of Appeals, due to a decline in membership. The Village Board is planning to take action at the December meeting regarding the matter.

Starting at $3.50/week.
