Heroes at home Fredonia schools hold ceremony to honor veterans
Students celebrate the visit by veterans last week.

The Fredonia Central School District proudly honored 40 veterans for their dedicated service to our country, including Dewey Winchell, a 100-year-old World War II veteran.

The morning began last week with a special breakfast and recognition ceremony, followed by a parade around the main campus. Veterans then traveled to Wheelock Primary School, where they were warmly welcomed by the district’s youngest learners during another parade in their honor.

The ceremony featured the Madrigal Singers performing the National Anthem, student speakers, and a heartfelt video tribute created by students, staff, and administrators. The event concluded with a performance of “Taps” by students Garrett Lesch and Jackson Stellrecht.

The Fredonia Central School District said it “extends its deepest gratitude to all veterans for their bravery, sacrifice, and service.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
