Joanna Ruth Burnside, 92 years old of Portland, New York passed away unexpectedly at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania early Tuesday morning with her family at her side. She was born in Steuben, Pennsylvania on April 27, 1925 to the late William and Bessie Stedman Ringer.
She has lived in this area most of her life. Joanna attended The Portland Grange School and had worked as a Laborer for A. Sam and Sons for many years. Prior to working there she had worked for Huntley Mfg in Brocton, New York and at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. Joanna also loved collecting Mickey Mouse paraphernalia and crocheting.
She is survived by two daughters Bonnie Johnson of Brocton, New York and Raye Ann (Lonnie) Palmer of Portland, New York, three grandchildren Brian, Chad and Heather Johnson and four great-grandchildren Bradley, Ryan, Brianna and Jenna Johnson and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by George Ringer, Neal Ringer, Naomi Bundy and Marlene Essex.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday morning at 11 am from the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton, New York. The Rev. Sandi Ball will officiate. Interment will follow at the Westfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the beginning of the Funeral Service.
