SOUTH DAYTON — Clayton F. Milks Jr., age 92, of the Markhams Cottage Road, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, March 23, 2018.

Clayton was born at home January 24, 1926, the son of Clayton F. Sr. and Clara (Volk) Milks.

Clayton married the former Bertha M. Szymanski on May 14, 1949 at the former St. John Fisher RC Church in South Dayton. Bertha passed away Sept. 29, 2010.

Clayton worked for the Town of Dayton for more than 50 years. He served as the Town’s Highway Superintendent for more than 10 years. Prior to his Superintendent position, Clayton worked as a heavy equipment operator for the town. Clayton, his wife and family also operated the family Dairy Farm. Clayton was the third generation to do so.

Clayton enjoyed the outdoors. He also, in his younger years, bowled at the former Pine Lanes in South Dayton in the Monday night Men’s League.

Survivors include two sons; David C. (Rita) Milks of Timberlake, NC, and Douglas W. (Diane Winter) Milks of South Dayton; along with three daughters, Cynthia A. (Daniel) Johnson of Fredonia, Patricia J. Milks of Great Valley and Jacquelyn J. (David) Reeves of Collins. Clayton is also survived by grandchildren, Seth, Brian, Eric (Ashley) and Christopher and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and his wife, Clayton is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Wood.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME, 44 Center St., Gowanda, (716) 532-4200 from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday where funeral services will be held Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Gowanda. Fr. Joseph Porpiglia Celebrant.
