Lorraine J. (Lori) Gornikiewicz Maternowski

Lorraine J. (Lori) Gor-nikiewicz Maternowski, age 63, died February 22, 2018 at the M.D. Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas after a short illness with her loving husband at her side. She was born on March 15, 1954 in Dunkirk to the late Herman and Mildred Kokocinski Gornikiewicz.

She retired from the Business Office at Brooks Memorial Hospital in 2016 after 38 years of service. She was a former member of Blessed Mary Angela Parish- St. Hedwig’s Church.

She was a loving and caring wife, sister, and aunt. A beautiful person, inside and outside, that always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone. She en-joyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends, and was a Buffalo Bills fan. She also loved her dogs who were always a part of her family (the most recent dog was named Joe). Lori had a special talent for interior decorating, especially at Christmas time. She was proud of her Polish heritage and traditions. She will be sadly missed and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband Gary, who was the love of her life that she married on June 25, 1977, her brother Dan (Julie) Gornikiewicz of Forestville, her sister Barbara Cotton-gin of Oakdale, Lousiana, her sister-in-law Marge (Jerry) Boltz of Portland, New York ,and her brother -in-law, John Michalski of Alabama, also surviving are nephews: Scott (Bari) Michalski of Texas, Brian (Autumn) Michalski of Alabama, Dan Gornikiewicz Jr. of Fredonia, and Adam Gornikiewicz of Dunkirk, Michael Boltz of Rochester, Christopher (Angie) Boltz of Brocton, and a niece Kristi Lynn Cottongin of Louisiana, along with additional nephews and nieces

She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Joan Michalski.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Saturday morning, March 10, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Blessed Mary Angela Parish-St. Hedwig’s Church with the Rev. Jan Trela officiating. Interment will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Ac-cording to Lori’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Newman Funeral Home, Inc.
