Verna E. Sprague

She was born April 8, 1923 the daughter of the late Arthur and Martha (Maringer) Smith.

On June 30, 1947 she married Edward “Ted” Sprague Jr. who predeceased her on August 21, 2015.

Mrs. Sprague was a stay at mom before her and her husband started Sprague’s General Store in Versailles which they ran together for many years.

She was a member of the Versailles Community Assoc., Versailles Fireman’s Aux, and the Home Bureau. She had attended St. Joseph’s RC Church in Gowanda and Holy Spirit RC Church in North Collins. She enjoyed crafting and quilting.

Mrs Sprague is survived by 4 sons Dr. Edward (Chris) Sprague III of Machias, NY, Robert (Marlene) Sprague of Orchard Park, NY, Gary (Susanne) Sprague of Versailles, NY and James (Diane) Sprague of Williamsville, NY and a daughter Marlene (Wayne) Lyon of Perrysburg, NY and 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters Lois (Louis) George of Eagle, NY, Arlene Holts of Chaffee, NY and Carol (Earl) Long of Versailles, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday March 22, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. from Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 105 East Main Street in Gowanda,NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday March 23, 2018 at 11am from St. Joseph’s RC Church in Gowanda, NY.

Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
