Carolyn M. Patton

Carolyn M. Patton, formerly of Fredonia, NY, died on May 1, 2018 in Allentown, PA at the Leigh Medical Center in Allentown. Carolyn, the youngest child of the family, was born on May 6, 1916, in Fredonia, to the late Louis and MAria (Lodico) Mancuso.

She attended Dunkirk High School and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Kutztown State University. For 20 years, Carolyn had taught elementary school at the River View Park School in Reading, PA. Upon retirement, she returned to Fredonia and lived at the family home, which was built by her father in 1860 after arriving from Sicily. She enjoyed wintering in Florida for 92 years until she went to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Allentown, seven years ago.

Carolyn was a worldwide traveler with her good friend, Rosella, often journeying back to her roots in Sicily and Rome. She was an avid reader and participated in water aerobics until she was 90. She will be remembered as a very positive person, who never let negative happenings get her down. But most of all, Carolyn deeply loved her grandchildren and they will miss her.

During her 102 years on Earth, Carolyn witnessed and experienced monumental changes in life, from the most simplistic lifestyle to a more advanced technological society. The parallel between the story of the immigrant Mancuso family history and the evolution of Fredonia’s history is quite comparable.

Carolyn was the wife of the late Joseph B. (Pasquale) Patton Sr., whom she married at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia, NY, on Nov. 27, 1941, and who died in 1990. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her

daughter, Carol Jean Patton, her sisters, Jeanne Palmucci, Josephine and Lucy Mancuso, and brothers Gustave, William and Carl Mancuso.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Joseph B. (Mary) Patton, Jr., and her grandchildren, Jennifer, Thomas and Anna Patton. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Carolyn’s 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on May 7, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia with the Reverend Joseph Walter as the celebrant.
