Jane M. Mackowiak (April 6, 1926-May 18, 2019)

Jane M. Mackowiak, 93, of Largo, FL, formerly Dunkirk, NY, passed away at Largo Medical Hospital on Saturday, May 18 after a brief illness.

She was born on April 6, 1926 in Dunkirk, NY the youngest child of the late Vincent and Bernice (Halas) Kubasik. Jane graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1944. She married the late Frank J. Mackowiak Jr on October 19, 1946 and were married 53 years until his death in 1999.

They made their home in Dunkirk and she worked various jobs, retiring from the New York Telephone Company. After retirement, they moved to Largo, FL for some fun in the sun. Jane was an avid reader and a devoted Catholic. She held membership at St. Hedwigs in Dunkirk and St. Justin the Martyr in Florida. She enjoyed watching her children’s sporting events, especially the Cardinal Mindszenty football team. In her younger years she could be found bowling the Friday night couple’s league or playing bingo. Some of her fondest memories were the times spent with friends at the Dunkirk Elks Club where she was a member of the Ladies of the Elks. She loved watching her favorite teams, the NY Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Buffalo Bills and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She gave so much and asked for so little.

Survivors include sons David P. Mackowiak of Dunkirk, Edward F. (Lisa) Mackowiak of Fredonia, and Lawrence G. (Theresa Fowler) Mackowiak of Largo. She was the proud Busia of Kelly (Rick) Jesse of Getzville, NY, Keith Mackowiak, Bethany (John) Fish of Severna Park, MD, Mark (Suzanne) Mackowiak of Stafford, VA, Ryan Mackowiak, and Michael Mackowiak of Largo. Great grandmother of Eric Jesse, Jack Fish, Ethan Fish, and Maddison Mackowiak.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Frank, her brothers Frank, John, Leo, and Florian Kubasik, sisters Agnes Gregory, Belle Trezenski, and Clara Bleck, grandson Eric Mackowiak and daughter in law Judy Mackowiak.

At her request, there will be no visitation and a private family mass will be celebrated at a later date. Consider making a donation to a charity in her name.
