Leonard Vento

Leonard Vento 7/9/19. Leonard is survived by his beloved wife Margo (Miller) Vento of 50 years, devoted father of Lee (Allison Dispense) Vento, of Fredonia, New York, and Lane (Dena Pickard) Vento of Marietta, Georgia. Sister of Ann (Charles) Fulgieri of Punta Gorda, Florida and his ‘grandson’ Liam Moon. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Mark Miller (Patty), Marie Montford (Rich), Marla Leonard (Jim), Marlon Miller (Michelle), Martin Miller (Patty), Leah Vento, in addition to several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Viola Vento, and his brother Louis Vento.

Lenny graduated from Fredonia State University in 1969 and raised his family in Fredonia for 37 years. In 1969 he spent the first year of his teaching career as a math teacher at Cassadaga Valley High School before moving to Fredonia Central School. His career and community involvement included: Fredonia High School Math Teacher for 25 years, Principal for the Fredonia Central School District for ten years, coordinator for the teen center ‘The Hub’, Chautauqua County Track & Field Official, Board member on the United Way and member of the Chautauqua County Association for the Education of Young Children (CCAEYC). During this time, he managed the Fredonia Central School Federal Credit Union. He retired from the NYS Teachers Association in 2003 and was elected to the Fredonia Board of Education.

In 2007, he and Margo relocated to Poinciana, Florida, where he continued to be highly active in the Solivita Adult Community and the ‘Mira Vista’ neighborhood. Acting as the unofficial ‘Mayor’ of Mira Vista, he was a member of the Poinciana West Community Development District, member of the Solivita Advisory Committee, coordinator of the Neighborhood Captains Task Force/Advisory, Relay for Life (Mira Vista) team member, Mira Vista Kazoo Band member, member and part of the Steering Committee for the Solivita Bowlers, Mathematics Teacher at Strayer University in Orlando and was actively involved in multiple organizations including, the American Cancer Society, St. Rose Lima Food Pantry, and Volunteer for Give the Kids the World.

Lenny was passionate and gave his all in every aspect of his life. He was a devoted and enthusiastic volunteer. He was genuine, kind, funny, loving, and an avid Mets fan. He was a mentor to many throughout his personal and professional life and will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by all.

There will be a Celebration of Life at The Palms, within the Solivita Community in Poinciana, Florida on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from 10:00-2:00P.M. An additional Celebration of Life will be held in Fredonia on August 29, 2019 with details to follow.
