Althea E. Sweet

She was born July 24, 1933 in Fredonia, the daughter of the late Clifford and Olive (Maines) Martin. Althea was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1950 and also graduated from the Jamestown School of Practical Nursing in 1974.

Following graduation she worked at Jamestown General Hospital from 1974 to 1985. When it closed she moved to California and worked at the psychiatric center in San Diego, CA.

A devoted grandmother, Althea’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of them.

Survivors include one daughter, Lorie (John Brown) Sweet of Forestville; one son, Neil (Deni) Sweet of California; six grandsons, Fred (Becky) Golembieski, Nicholas (Lyndsay) Golembieski, Clifford (Amanda) Golembieski, Tyler (Rachael) Sweet, Dylan (Brooke) Sweet, and Kyle Sweet; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Sweet, who died March 6, 2009; and one daughter, Melanie Kane, on April 22, 1997.

Memorial services will be held Monday at 12 noon at the VFW Sheridan Memorial Post No. 6390, Route 20, Sheridan, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sheridan Emergency Rescue Squad. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
