Harold Dean Stevens

Harold Dean Stevens, age 72, of Forestville, made his transition from this life to his new life in the Lord on Thursday, September 5, 2019. At his passing he was surrounded by his loving family at home. Dean was under the care of Hospice, along with the VA of Buffalo Dean was born on April 7, 1947 in Keene, NH and moved to Cheektowaga, NY at age 3 in 1950. Dean graduated from Cleveland Hill High School in Cheektowaga in 1965 and attended Erie Community College before serving in the US Navy (USS Saratoga) for four years during the Vietnam era. After he was honorably discharged, he married Marcia Mika on January 1, 1971 at the Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church in Cheektowaga. They had a son, Nathan, moved to Silver Creek in 1973, and then had a daughter, Barbara. Dean worked as an auto mechanic for several years in Hamburg. Later, he worked at the Al Tech Steel Plant in Dunkirk in the metallurgy lab. Along the way, he built a house for his family in Silver Creek. He completed all the aspects of the home, including electrical, plumbing and roofing. He also renovated 3 other houses that they resided in. He was a master craftsman just like his son Nathan.Dean and his wife Marcia went on mission trips with Fredonia Harvest Chapel to New Mexico and Brooklyn, NY. On these trips, Dean was able to use his trade skills with others. Dean volunteered to complete and create a handicapped- compliant bathroom at Gage Chapel in Smith’s Mills. He worked at the parsonage as well and designed an extra living area.Later in life, Dean chose to work alongside his son Nate in the construction trade. If there was a job to be done, Dean had the ability and drive to do it, and shared that gift with others. Dean recently remarked that he thoroughly enjoyed building a cabin in the woods for his three grand-daughters. Dean was an avid reader of fiction. He also enjoyed riding a motorcycle when he was younger. His greatest joys were the Lord and his family. Dean treasured his time

with his wife, Marcia, daughter Barbara, son-in-law Tom, their daughter Gracie and his grand-daughters Lulu and Vivi (Nate’s children). Dean sacrificed for his family in countless ways so that they could have a better life. He maintained a sense of humor throughout his life which helped him through difficult times.Harold Dean is survived by his beloved wife Marcia, cherished daughter Barbara, her husband Tom (Deike, whom Dean loved like a son), their daughter Gracie, and Nate’s daughters, Lulu and Vivi. He is also survived by sisters Diana (Thomas) Szymanski, Joan (Stevens) Knobloch, Julie (Stevens) Wolkiewicz, brothers and sisters-in-law Walter (Patricia) Mika, Thomas (Rose Marie) Mika and Donna Mika and several awesome nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Marguerite (Moore) Stevens and father George Stevens, his mother-in-law Helen (Uzdygan) Mika and father-in-law Walter Mika, brother-in-law Jim Mika (Donna), and his son Nathan D. Stevens, who passed away May 23, 2011.He will be especially remembered for his love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He faced death bravely, assured that he would meet the Lord and be reunited with his son. Dean donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Buffalo for research.A church service will be held at Gage Chapel at 11409 Hanover Road in Forestville on Tuesday, September 10 at 10 a.m. with brunch to follow on-site. Pastor Michael Pollock will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gage Community Chapel, c/o 465 King Road, Forestville, NY 14062.
