WESTFIELD – Betty Ellen (Eggert) Reid, age 92, a Westfield resident most all her life, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Heritage Village SNF in Gerry, NY following an extended illness.

Betty was born on August 12, 1927, in Westfield, New York, the daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Wilson) Eggert.

Betty was a 1945 Graduate of WACS and received her Physical Education Degree from Brockport State Teachers College. She had been a substitute Gym teacher in Ripley and Brocton Schools for several years. Betty had also sold Real Estate for the former Davies Realty Company and had worked on the Deakin and Eggert family grape farms for many years. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield and had been a founding member of, and longtime volunteer, with the Westfield Memorial Hospital Gray Ladies. She had been a member of the YWCA of Westfield and participated in the Home Bureau program. She was supportive of her late husband, J. Donald Reid in his activities with the Fire Department of Westfield including all of his 58 years as a member and his many years as an Officer, Chief and as President of the SWAVF. She had been a member of the former Columbine Crown OES. Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and loyal sister and friend.

Survivors include her 4 daughters, Marsha (Kenneth) Leaf of Sauquoit, NY, Donna (Neal) Watkins of Azle, TX, Cindy (Douglas) Norton of Hartfield, NY, and Janet Reid, who was her caregiver, of Westfield. Betty was the proud grandmother of, Jennifer Snyder, April Leaf, Christina Jenkins, Dana Gambino, SrCPO J.D. Watkins, USN, Ryan Norton and Andrew “Drew” Norton. Many Great Grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her Husband, J. Donald Reid, whom she married on August 6, 1949 in Westfield and who died on May 14, 2006, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Edna Germain, Grace Kunow, Alice Deakin, James W. Eggert and David R. Eggert.

Friends may call on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 5 PM until 7 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY and are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday morning, November 25, 2019 at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield, NY with Rev. Dr. Shannon Smythe officiating. Burial will be private in Westfield Cemetery.
