Samuel A. “Sam” Fadale

An area resident for most of his life, he was born June 21, 1923 in Dunkirk, NY, a son of the late Charles and Rose Raymondo Fadale.

Sam was a graduate of Dunkirk High School and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving from January 29, 1946 to April 17, 1947 during World War II. During his tour of duty he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for the former Watson Manufacturing Company and in earlier years had worked for the American Locomotive Company in Dunkirk, NY and the General Electric Company in Erie, PA.

Sam was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a 57 year member of the Henry Mosher Post 638 American Legion, Falconer, NY and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He will be remembered as one who enjoyed spending holidays with his nephew Joe’s family and his great great nieces and great nephew. He was also an avid New York Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan. He also loved going to the casino and reading World War II history literature and railroad history stories. He will be sadly missed by his extended family.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews including Joseph and Barb DeCastro of Jamestown, NY, who cared for him, as well as several great nieces and great nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Russell and Joseph Fadale and two sisters, Annie Bagnato and Matilda Martinelli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church.
