Daniel L. Chiavetta

Daniel L. Chiavetta, 64, of Alison Park, Penn., formerly of Silver Creek, passed away on February 11, 2020.

He was born January 1, 1956, in Silver Creek, the son of the late Louise A. DeMarco and Nunzio F. Chiavetta. He graduated in 1974 from Silver Creek Central School, where he played football, basketball and baseball, setting school records in baseball that stood for decades.

His career in baking began at Bolls Bakery in Silver Creek. He went on to bake for Super Duper and Wegmans before moving to Houston, where he worked for Kroger supermarkets, and Atlanta, where he worked for Engleman’s Bakery.

For about 15 years, Dan was co-owner and general manager of the Southern Baking Company in Greenville, S.C. He then returned to Western New York, working at Market in the Square in West Seneca. Most recently he worked at Prantl’s Bakery in Pittsburgh, where he was a manager and mentor to many.

He was an avid fan of baseball, college football and golf and was once an active golfer and bowler. He enjoyed traveling, wine tastings, cooking and spending time with his family. Dan was an organ donor.

He is survived by his wife Tina and daughter Samantha of Alison Park, Penn.; daughter Lindsay (Shane) Marcheson of Elma, N.Y.; grandchildren Avery and Charlie Marcheson; sisters Geri (Norman) Clapp of Atlanta, Ga., Judi (Roger) Garlapow of North Tonawanda, Linda (Ron) DePasquale of Irving, and Darlene Chiavetta, of Wichita, Kansas; brother Nunzio “Bob” Chiavetta of Hamburg; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 8 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek and burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Farnham.
