Rita Ott

Rita M. Ott, 88, of Dunkirk died Thursday morning (Feb. 27, 2020) at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk.

She was born Dec. 2, 1931 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Freda (Koepke) Leck-liter.

A lifelong area resident, Rita took an active role in operating her husband’s business, Billy Otto’s Tavern in Dunkirk from 1973 to 1981. She also worked as a substitute teacher’s aide in the Dunkirk School System.

A parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Rita also belonged to the John T. Murray VFW Post 1017 Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Ott II and David Ott Sr., both of Dunkirk; one daughter, Karen (Daniel) Willis of Dunkirk; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Ott Sr., who died May 19, 2011; one son, William F. Ott Jr. on April 6, 2019; two brothers, Robert and Willard “Bill” Leckliter; and her grandson, Michael David Ott.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. There will be no calling hours. Entombment will be in the Assumption Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
