Anna J. Mahon

Anna J. Mahon

Anna J. Mahon, 94, of Dunkirk, died peacefully Friday evening (March 27, 2020) at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.

Anna was born in Dunkirk, NY on May 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Michael and Karolina (Dul) Mucha. Although she relocated around the country and the world in her husband’s service to the nation, Anna considered herself a lifelong Dunkirk resident, and a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.

She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She celebrated her family at every opportunity, and never hesitated to make personal sacrifices in order to help her loved ones.

She devotedly tended to her rose bushes at her long-time home. She loved preparing meals and baking pies and cookies for her family and friends. As much time as possible was spent at Rushford Lake, where she could bring so much joy to so many.

Anna was predeceased by her husband Major Lester Mahon in 1962; two sons David L. Mahon and Mark L. Mahon; companion Lamont Griese; sisters Helen Lazarczyk, Mildred “Millie” Wolfe, Joan “Joni” Wicks, and infant Mary Ann Mucha; brothers Joseph, John, and Michael “Freddie” Mucha.

She is survived by son Michael Floyd (and Karen) Mahon of Dewittville, NY; grandson David Mark Mahon (and Don Albrecht) of Chicago, IL; grand-daughter Dr. Jill Marie-Faye (and David) Ludin of Patchogue, NY; sister Julia Schrantz of Dunkirk, NY; special nieces Sharon Frey and Cindy Zolnoske, and many other loving nieces and nephews. She loved her entire extended family very deeply, and was never happier than when the family was together.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be determined.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 328 Washington Ave, Dunkirk, NY 14048. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
