Peter Joseph Bienko

Peter Joseph Bienko, 81, of Dunkirk, N.Y., went to meet Our Lord on June 30, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Peter was born Aug. 30, 1938, son of the late John and Martha (Ryczko) Bienko, and was a life long resident of Dunkirk.

He graduated from Dunkirk Senior High School and honorably served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hawkins.

He worked in the steel industry and retired in 2000.

His member ships include Blessed Mary Angela Parish, was a volunteer firefighter with Hose Company 4 where he played the bass drum in the company’s drum corp, served as treasurer for the past 28 years and was Fireman of the Year in 1985.

Peter was a lifetime member at the Kosciuszko Club, Moniuszko Club, 1st and 4th Ward Falcon Clubs and an active member at various local clubs.

Peter was a die hard Raiders and Yankees fan, he loved sports especially bowling, softball, jarts, and horseshoes but his real passion was his love of his family and friends.

He unselfishly helped anyone and everyone, traveled the United States following his children and grandchildren. He was there for every important event in their lives.

He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, Paulette of 57 years; children: Cathy (Joe) Vaccaro, Peter P. (Kari) Bienko, Mary (Jim) Fortman and Susan (Scott) Ramsay; siblings: Jack (Christa) Bienko, Marge Hassall, Marie (Edziu) Guziec, Betty (Bob) Hilbrecht and Joe Bienko; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death in addition to his parents are brother, David; and grandson, Bobby.

Calling hours are Sunday at R. Mackowiak Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Murray Hose 4 members please assemble at 7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral. Bring your COVID mask.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m., in Blessed Mary Angela Church Of St. Hyacinth.
