Arlene Briggs

Arlene Briggs, 80, of Dunkirk, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at home.

She was born July 11, 1940, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Walter and Marion (Richter) Olejniczak.

A resident of Dunkirk for most of her life, Arlene had been employed as a CNA at the Chautauqua County Home for many years, retiring in 2002. She was a parishioner and eucharistic minister of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, and also belonged to the Dunkirk Moose Lodge 89 and Ladies of the Elks Lodge 922.

Survivors include five daughters: Diane Briggs-Fabin of Rochester, Minn., Julie (David Cappiello) Briggs of Dunkirk, Lisa (Frank) Bolte of Erie, Pa., Donna (Brett) Mitchell of Dansville, N.Y., and Traci (Charles) Thompson of Fredonia; one brother, Walter (Sharon Dean) Olejniczak of North Tonawanda; one sister, Janet (Todd) Blackley of Lockport; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer, Ashley, Joshua, Amanda, Jacklyn, Michelle, Jessica, Kristen, LeeAnna and Charles; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Briggs, who died Dec. 1, 2002; stepfather, Frank Dragan; and brother, Robert Dragan.

Following the guidelines and protocols administered by the governor of New York, family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m., to-day at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery.
