Theodore A. “Ted” Mason

Theodore A. ” Ted “ Mason, 84, of Westfield, N.Y., passed away peacefully, Saturday evening Sept. 12, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Ted was born July 22, 1936 in Ripley, N.Y., the son of the late George and Irene (Warner) Mason. On Jan. 16, 1960, he married Rita Collins at St. Jerome’s Church in Arlington, Mass.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 60 years; a daughter, Darlene Durbin of Lake Placid, N.Y.; two sons: Bradley Mason of Forestville, N.Y., and Douglas Mason of Westfield, N.Y.; seven grandchildren: Christine (husband, Tyrone) Ridgeway, Derrick Durbin, Erica (husband, Kevin) Marrow, Kaleb and Nicholas Mason, Timothy and Brittany Cerrie; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (wife, Stella) Mason of Palmer, Alaska; and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Sherve; and a brother, Lawrence Mason.

Ted was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School in Meadville, Pa. He was a patriot, who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1998. He worked on many projects throughout WNY.

His memberships included being a life member of the Westfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former commander and 50 year member of the Westfield American Legion. Ted loved the outdoors in his younger years he completed his licensing for a private pilot’s license, he owned his own plane. He was a charter member of the Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club in Mayville, N.Y. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, air boating, four wheeling and riding motorcycles. His family and friends referred to him as an amateur/gentleman farmer. He also attempted to be a winemaker.

Friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, N.Y., on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 2-4 p.m.. There will be a celebration of Ted’s life immediately following at the Westfield American Legion beginning at 4 with food and drinks.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Ted’s honor to the Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
