Zelda Kittell

Zelda Jane Vogt Kittell, 91, of Pleasant Twp., Warren, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, at her home after an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to the late Rollin Whipple and Lily Hirst Vogt Sr.

She was a 1947 graduate of Dunkirk High School. Zelda was employed with the former Van Raalte Lingerie Co., in the shipping dept. She was vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary of East Town Volunteer Fire Department of Dunkirk and vice president of the P.T.U. at the old St. Joseph School, where she was also chairwoman of spaghetti dinners. She worked for Erie Times Newspaper as manager of circulation for 25 years.

She enjoyed knitting, bowling, golf, and babysitting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was treasurer of the Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and treasurer of TOPS and was president/treasurer of the Sunshine Bowling League. She currently was Judge of Elections for Pleasant Township and had volunteered as receptionist at the Allegheny Community Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and the former Altar Rosary Society.

Zelda is survived by her three sons: Mark Louis Kittell and wife, Mary W., of Warren, Pa., Gary Michael Kittell and his wife, Mary T. of Irvine, Pa., and Daryl Lee Kittell and wife, Stephanie of Warren, Pa.; four daughters: Jane Marie Jewell and husband, James, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Judith Lynn Christensen and husband, Richard of Columbus, Pa., Zina Beth Weidow of South Bend, Ind., and Janet Sue Nelson and husband, Charles Nelson, Jr., of Union City, Pa., two sisters: Marilyn Chambers of Prince George, Va., Donna Daughenbough and her husband, Ed of Cassadaga, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Vogt of Dunkirk N.Y.; 15 Grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Kittell, who died Sept, 6, 2006 and whom she married in 1950 at the former St. Mary’s Church in Dunkirk, N.Y. and now is the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church; one brother, Rollin Whipple Vogt Jr.; one sister, Dorothy Shuart; a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Nelson; and one great granddaughter, Ara Jane Kittell.

Friends may call at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., West, Warren, Pa., on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Richard Tomasone, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection in St. Joseph Cemetery.
