Frances S. (Herdzik) Gens-Frania

Frances S. (Herdzik) Gens-Frania 73, of Cassadaga, N.Y., left us unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 6, peacefully in her home.

She was born May 8, 1947, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Adolph and Eva Herdzik.

Fran attended Cardinal Mindszenty High School and was employed by SUNY Fredonia, Miley’s in Jamestown and retired from ShurFine in Cassadaga. Even after retirement, Frania never retired.

She attended Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, N.Y., and was also a member Dom Polski Club. She volunteered for many years at Emaculate Conception Church, Lakeshore Humane Society, Fundraiser and Blessed Mary Angela Parish Fundraiser.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Harry Gens, whom she married Feb. 3, 1968: two sons Jeffrey and Tracie Gens of Jamestown, and Mark Gens and Christopher Nyman of Jamestown; granddaughter: Ashley Gens of Jamestown who she referred to as “Pesha”; siblings: Thomas Herdzik of Cassadaga, Adolph and Lynn Herdzik Jr. of Dunkirk, Roger and Melissa Herdzik of Dunkirk, and Nancy and Ralph Letersky of Dunkirk; cousins: Jane Henderson, Pauline Newman and Joey Rozen, who she thought the world of.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Melvina L. Gens Cleland; cousin, Frankie Rozen; and aunt, Stephania Rozen.

Fran devoted her life to her children, grand-daughter, husband, family and friends. She also enjoyed going to the Casino, and she had a love for her cats. She was known for her contagious gift of laughter, generosity, her straight forwardness, and was the glue of her family. She will be missed by many, two and four legged.

Fran finally got her dream of attending college, she chose to donate her body to the University of Buffalo.

Memorials, if desired, may be left in Fran’s name at Lake Shore Humane Society or Oshei Childrens Hospital.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
