Inez E. Shaffer

DAYTON — Inez E. Shaffer, 109, formerly of Dayton, passed away at the Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Williamsville.

She was born June 28, 1911 in Lake City, Pa., the daughter of the late Charles and Genevieve (Jefferson) Smith. She was married to William T. Shaffer, who predeceased her on Sept. 10, 1991.

Mrs. Shaffer worked as a collections agent for Sears, Roebuck for many years out of Niagara Falls. She was a member of the former Gowanda Eastern Star then later its Little Valley chapter, as well as the Perrysburg-Dayton Methodist Church and was active in the Dayton Grainge Hall and the Dayton Historical Society. She loved to read and play the organ, which she did for local area churches such as the Collins Center Methodist Church and the Perrysburg-Dayton Methodist Church.

Mrs. Shaffer is survived by two daughters: Mary (late Wells) Crawley of Ransomville, N.Y., and Sandy (William) Bridenbaker of Gowanda, N.Y. Also surviving are six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her loving husband and parents, Mrs. Shaffer is predeceased by two brothers: Paul and Edwin Smith; two sisters: Grace Lineman and Jean Billick; as well as two grandchildren: Richard Bridenbaker and William Crawley.

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Dayton Historical Society or a charity of choice.
