Virginia V. Sobecki

Virginia V. Sobecki, 87, of Dunkirk, died, Saturday morning, Jan. 30, 2021, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born April 19, 1933, in Dunkirk, daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary A. (Moraniec) Guziec.

Virginia was raised in the Silver Creek and Dunkirk area and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy.

A retired employee of Kraft Foods in Dunkirk and had been a past employee of the M. Wile Plant in Dunkirk and also worked for the Chautauqua Count Board of Elections.

A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R. C. Church Virginia had many hobbies to include sewing, cross stitch, painting, ceramics, baking, reading, shopping and gardening.

She made pierogies with her granddaughters at Christmas time, playing card games with them, taught them to play UNO, and playing Rummy with her sons, which always ended with a “toast” and many laughs. Virginia enjoyed the many little road trips spent with her husband, and the two would spend Sunday afternoons watching the Pittsburgh Steelers. But, most of all Virginia felt very blessed with the large family she had and loved each and everyone of them in their own special way.

A wonderful mom, grandma, great grandma, sister and friend, she would strike up a conversation with anyone and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her children Romayne (Larry) Rutski, Gerald (Patti) Sobecki, Nick (Roxane) Sobecki, Mark John (Heidi) Sobecki, Roberta (Tom) Krystofiak, grandchildren Tom (Beth) Krystofiak, Jay (Kristelle) Krystofiak, Emily Krystofiak, Jacob (Nicole) Sobecki, Sara Sobecki, Amanda (John) Skelley, Jamie (Rob) Westin, Nicholas (Angela) Sobecki, Jackie (Casey) Krug, Megan Dickson, Mike Sobecki, Jessica (Brian Herman) Rutski, Lynne (Matt) Schellenger, Lisa (Kenny) Lee, 21 great grandchildren, sisters Micheline Kuzoria, Marie Elliott, brothers Dave (Marlene) Guziec, Michael (Marie) Guziec, along with several nieces and nephews survive.

Preceded in death in addition to her parents is her husband Gerald Sobecki Sr., whom she married June 19, 1954 and died December 12, 2012, siblings Lorraine Guziec, Esther Guziec, Frances Carrus, Geraldine Wolmering, Jerome Guziec, Joseph Guziec, Evelyn Kuzdale.

Following the guidelines and protocals administered by the governor of NY, relatives and friends may call Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, Washington Ave, Dunkirk, from 10-11 a.m.

A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. Inturnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
