Jerre J. Mitchell

Jerre J. Mitchell, 88, of Chautauqua Rehab & Nursing Center, formerly of Fredonia, N.Y., was called home to be reunited with his wife, Nancy on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

He was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond Mitchell and Gladys Carlson.

He spent his childhood in Buffalo, N.Y. Graduated from Burgard Vocational High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his two brothers, and proudly served his country from 1951-55.

He married Nancy E. Richardson on June 8, 1957 and shared 28 years of marriage and six children with her before her untimely passing on Dec. 18, 1985.

Jerre worked for 44 years as a typesetter for The Evening Observer.

He was an avid bowler belonging to many leagues throughout the years. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes in his backyard on Liberty Street, playing pool and going on summer Sunday picnics with his family and friends.

Surviving are his children, sons: Perry (Toni) Mitchell, Brian (Laura Portillo) Mitchell and Darren (Liza) Mitchell; daughters: Pamela (Bob Layman) Racino, Diane (Lyle) Dorler and Robin (Rod) Krzyzanowski.

Also survived by 13 grandchildren: Jeffrey Mitchell, Laura Jo (Charles) Brockhaus, Gina Mitchell, Ryan Racino, Nicholas (Kylee) Racino, Megan (Jason) Arter, Amanda (Tim) Hanson, Breanna (Kyle Nevin) Mitchell, Brandon and Tyler Mitchell, Katelyn Horn, and Samantha and Aaron Dorler.

Further survived by nine great-grandchildren: Gage, Jackson and Lucie, Ben and Jacob; McKayla, Carly, Taylor and Vincent.

In addition to his parents, Jerre was predeceased by the love of his life, wife, Nancy E. Mitchell; brothers; George and Budl and an infant grandson, Michael A. Racino.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
