Helen F. Westling

Helen F. Westling, 91, a resident of St. Columban’s on the Lake Retirement Home, Silver Creek, formerly of Fredonia died Wednesday morning (Sept. 22, 2021) at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Casimir and Helen (Kapuscinski) Mroczka.

A lifelong Dunkirk- Fredonia resident, Helen was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy.

She had been employed as a clerk-typist at Allied Claims Services. She also was the legal secretary for the firm of Woodin and Carpenter in Dunkirk for more than 35 years.

A parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Helen was active in the Buffalo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women as an alternate delegate from her parish. She was president of the Chautauqua North Deanery and treasurer and vice president of the council. She also held several offices in Our Lady of Sorrows Society, was active in religious education classes, and was girls supervisor at St. Joseph’s School for Exceptional Children.

Survivors include her niece, Sandra (Donald) Theisen of Lincoln, Neb.; grandnephews: Brian and David; grandniece, Traci Theisen; and great-grand-nephews: Brady and Tyler Theisen. Several cousins also survive.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred “Fritz” Mroczka.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dunkirk.
