John J. Tonello

GOWANDA — John J. Tonello, 66 of Johnson Street passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

John was born in Buffalo, N.Y., April 21, 1955, the son of John and Louise (Wagonblatt) Tonello.

A self-employed handyman for many years John cleaned several businesses in the western NY area and got his children involved with his cleaning service. Prior to his self-employment John worked at Cliffstar in Dunkirk running the auger/juicer for the company, he worked there for nearly 15 years before its closing. John also worked security for D’Youville and Westinghouse.

John married the former Theresa A. Durzewski at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo on July 31, 1976. Together they had 13 children.

A member of the Master Plan Community Church in Dayton, John enjoyed the church outreach programs and attending with his wife, Theresa. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, painting, and donating to the less fortunate or any law enforcements’ worthy causes.

Surviving besides his wife of 45 years are their children: John (Jaime) Tonello of Glen Allen, Va., Matthew (Ginnette) Tonello of Springville, Daniel (Alicia) Tonello of Gowanda, David (Alexis) Tonello of Collins, Jeremiah (Erin) Tonello of Gowanda, Theresa Tonello of Amherst, Mary Tonello of Collins, Sarah (Micah) Seiler of Collins, Rebecca Tonello of Gowanda, Rachel (Gerard) Tonello of Gowanda and Eliana Tonello of Gowanda; along with 17 grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Tonello of Gowanda; a sister, Linda (Samuel) Terese of Naperville, Ill.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Judah Tonello (June 13, 1995); a daughter who passed away an hour after him, Elizabeth Tonello (Oct. 21, 2021); and a sister, Mary Ann Tonello, who passed away as a small child.

John’s funeral will be held along with his daughter’s on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 at 11 a.m., from the Gowanda Free Methodist Church, 149 W. Main St., Gowanda (please assemble at church) Burial will follow in the Jolls Cemetery Perrysburg. There will be a funeral luncheon at the Master’s Plan Community Church, 9586 Railroad St., Dayton, N.Y., following the burial at Jolls Pastor Simon Knighton and Pastors Robert and Angie Miller will co-celebrate John and Elizabeth’s Funeral.
