Bronislaus T. “Brownie” Skubis

Bronislaus T. “Brownie” Skubis, 93, of Dunkirk, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 17, 1929, in Dunkirk, a son of the late John and Anastasia Bzdiuch Skubis.

He was a 1948 graduate of Dunkirk High School.

Brownie was employed at Al Tech for 36 years and as the Dunkirk Harbor master for 17 years.

In younger years, he thoroughly enjoyed playing in the city league basketball and softball leagues. Brownie was a 50 year member of the Hose 4 fire department.

He is survived by, his wife of 71 years, Ruth “Rudy” Thompson Skubis, whom he married, July 21, 1951; father of John (Judy) Skubis, Pamela (Kenneth) Sek, Steven (Christine) and Gregg (Debbie) Skubis; grandfather of Jack Kincaid, Michael (Julie), Jonathan (Aime), and James (Nicole) Sek, Sarah (Shawn) Pfleuger, Jenna, Noah (Arianna), Taylor and Hana Skubis; great-grandfather of Kate and Issic Kincaid, Michelle and Jared Sek, Kaylee Pavlovitch, Bryan and Aylessa Wagner, Madison and Macy Skubis.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Josephine Napierala, Stanley, Joseph, John, Chester and Edward Skubis. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Mary Angela Roman Catholic Church, (formerly St. Hedwig’s) corner of Doughty St. and Roberts Road, Dunkirk.
