Brocton Central alumni announce events

BROCTON — The Brocton Central School Alumni Association has announced its 2022 scholarship winners. Each recipient will receive up to $1,000 depending on proceeds raised from the upcoming golf tournament and Weidner’s chicken and rib barbecue on July 9.

Christian Garcia, Mathew Stahlman and Connor Utegg will receive half of their award before starting college this fall with the balance given to them after they have successfully completed their first semester and are enrolled for second semester. All proceeds raised from the golf tournament, chicken and rib barbecue and donations will fund these scholarships. The BCS Alumni has awarded over $43,000 in scholarships over the past 15 years. The Alumni Committee met Monday evening to finalize plans for the July 9 events. There are a few spots left for golf teams. Contact Jon Espersen at 467-8328. The tournament has an 8 a.m. start at Pine Hurst Golf Course in Westfield at $70 per golfer. The fee includes golf, prizes and a hot dog and hamburger lunch at the turn, skins available.

There will be a 50-50 drawings and some nice raffle prizes.

Register as a team of four, or individuals will randomly be assigned to a team. Superintendent of BCS, Jason Delcamp, will conduct a school tour at 2 p.m. as well. Meet at the school flagpole in the front parking lot. The fun continues with a chicken and rib barbecue by Weidner’s at the Brocton Legion Post 434. Options include drive-through to pick-up, or park and eat inside. The dinner includes barbecued chicken and ribs, buttered spuds, coleslaw, roll and butter with a cookie “compliments of Emily’s Bakery.” Tickets are $18 and can be obtained by calling Kathy Peters or text 716 679-5814 or call the Herbert Star Apartments 716 792-7585.

Tickets are also available at the Brocton Legion outside on Friday night or anytime at the Legion bar, the Village of Brocton office, Town of Portland office, or from any Alumni committee member. A limited number of extra dinners will be ordered; however, it is best to have reserved tickets.

A sign will be posted at the entry to the Legion driveway once all extra dinners are sold, leaving dinners for only reserved tickets. Give the name of the person who ordered to the drive-through staff for reserved tickets. Have cash or a check made payable to BCS

Alumni Association ready to not hold up the line. Dinners can be picked up between 4 to 6 p.m. Some classes have decided to eat inside together such as 1962, 1967, 1970, 1972,1981. Let the organizers know how many will attend from these or other classes so tables can be reserved. Several scholarship donations have been received and are so appreciated. Donations can be sent to: BCS Alumni Association PO Box 195 Brocton, NY 14716. Volunteers are needed to assemble dinners. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, and students can be given volunteer credit (which looks good on college applications). Call Kathy Peters at 716 679-5814.
