Worry about mayor, not treasurer post

Editor, OBSERVER:

There is no monetary benefit to the taxpayers of the City of Dunkirk by making the change in the charter as put forth on the ballot in November. Moving the position of treasurer from elected to under the auspices of the finance dept does nothing.

A better action would be to eliminate the position of mayor as an elected position and hire a city manager. One whose education and experience enables him or her to direct the electees and navigate the

Systems of a city in today’s world. We would benefit from this by eliminating the ineptness to which we have been subjected the past few years.

Perhaps the council needs to consider changes in the charter that place education/experience requirements on positions.

In any event, give the matter consideration before casting your vote on Tuesday.
