Twenty years ago — 1999

A People in Profile notes the Sinclairville Fire Hall plays a significant role in the lives of John and Lucile Marsh of Charlotte Center Road, Sinclairville. It is the central site for their current activities which includes Mrs. Marsh serving as manager for the Sinclairville 76ers senior citizen luncheon program and Mr. Marsh’s involvement with the Meals on Wheels operation. The fire hall is also the site where the couple formed their lasting relationship beginning on a Saturday night in September 1945 at a square dance held there.

Thirty years ago — 1989

Dunkirk Building Inspector George Corsoro has confirmed that he is seeking the Democratic nomination for mayor in this November’s city election. If he receives the endorsement from the the Dunkirk Democratic City Committee, Mr. Corsoro is then expected to formally announce his candidacy. He served as 2nd Ward councilman from 1974 to 1977. In 1978, he became the city’s assistant building inspector, a post he held until 1985, when he became building inspector.

Forty years ago — 1979

The “Cavaliers,” a polka band from Dunkirk, is scheduled to appear on the “Polka Varieties’ television show on Channel 29 in Buffalo. The band taped the show in Cleveland sometime in March. Chet Kozlowski Jr., who plays accordion, is the band leader. Other members of the Cavaliers who will be performing are Steward Loeb, saxophone; Roy Polvino, trumpet; John Yerico, bass; Fritz Jesse, banjo; and Kevin Rys, drums.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Calendar Girl for the month of April is Bonnie Valentine of Route 39, Forestville, a senior and member of the 1969 graduating class at Forestville Central School. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Valentine. Bonnie hopes to attend art school. She is a school representative on the teen fashion board of McCall’s magazine.
